Via DownloadSquad, Current TV, the Al Gore-backed TV network, is gearing up for a major relaunch of its web site that could help it break away from the nirvana of cable and recapture the Net. The official launch of the site is scheduled for Oct. 16, and Gore himself has been taking a break from the slideshow business to drum up publicity at the Emmys and on The Tonight Show, proclaiming that Current.com will “take interactivity to a new level.
Current TV will hold two sessions at ConvergeSouth this year and address issues like how to make a Current pod, demo pods, answer questions and Saskia Wilson-Brown and Brandon Gross will take pitches. Be sure to sign up for dinner with them on Saturday night on the ConvergeSouth dinner wiki. There are only 4 seats left.

ConvergeSouth is unhappily but realistically cancelling DEMO presentations for 2007.
We try to add new features each year of the Conference (see The Film Festival and revitalized Music Festival); however, this year, we tried to add one too many. The response for DEMOs did not justify the scheduling and other costs associated with the feature.
We hope to do a better job contacting DEMO presenters next year and have a DEMOÂ are worth our work and your time.
DEMO coordinators for ConvergeSouth 2008 can apply at any time!

ConvergeSouth’s Social Networking Panel (with Anil Dash) is even better now that Elisa Camahort of BlogHer is joining the 2-member session. Elisa isn’t just any old BlogHer’er; rather, she’s a co-founder of BlogHer and the self-proclaimed Queen Bee of Worker Bees. This is shaping up to be quite a panel and we hope you’re registered for the conference.

From Ed Cone’s blog:
Loren Feldman will not be leading a session on creating great web video at ConvergeSouth. The free conference is meant to be welcoming to all people, and volunteer coordinator Sue Polinsky and I feel that Loren’s recent video, and his responses to criticism of that video, would make him a lightning rod for controversy and a distraction from the session itself. We have offered him the opportunity to create some programming around the controversy for ConvergeSouth, and I hope he will consider doing so.
This is not a free-speech issue, this is a consequences of free-speech issue. I don’t know Loren personally, but I enjoy much of his work — including his parody of a celeb apology — and believe him that he’s not a racist, and believe as well he could make a real contribution here in Greensboro. If so, it won’t be at the front of the video session; we will announce a new session leader shortly.
