Idea Gathering ConvergeSouth 2008

Ed Cone November 4th, 2007

We’re gathering ideas for ConvergeSouth 2008. Currently, we have a new piece of the schedule (and a sponsor!) and we’re taking suggestions for breakout sessions for 2008. Because ConvergeSouth will likely be next to BlogHer’s Reach Roadshow in Greensboro, we have a one-day (Friday) conference with our new feature on Thursday (10/16/2008) afternoon (leave the date open; it’s going to be fun). With eight breakout sessions available on Friday, October 17, 2008, we’d like ideas on what you’d enjoy attending (or you think is good for CS’ers). So far our certainly-not-final list includes

  • Blogging 101 (that’s real 101, fundamentals)
  • SEO 102 (SEO session was oversubscribed, much enjoyed; worthy of increasing)
  • Better Video (that’s a catch-all topic for now, but we’re holding Tom Lassiter hostage)

Can you add ideas to the comments?

Current TV @ ConvergeSouth

Current TV promotes ConvergeSouth in the best way: video. We’ve got a “commercial.” Very cool.

Thanks to presenters Saskia Wilson-Brown and Brandon Gross for the shout out.

BlogHer comes east (and a little bit south)

Elisa Camahort - BlogHerConvergeSouth’s Social Networking Panel (with Anil Dash) is even better now that Elisa Camahort of BlogHer is joining the 2-member session. Elisa isn’t just any old BlogHer’er; rather, she’s a co-founder of BlogHer and the self-proclaimed Queen Bee of Worker Bees. This is shaping up to be quite a panel and we hope you’re registered for the conference.

Moving Pictures on the Web

Sue September 19th, 2007

ConvergeSouth is pretty darned happy to announce that the Saturday special “Moving Pictures on the Web” presentation is led by Saskia Wilson-Brown, manager of VC2 Filmaker Outreach, and Jason McHugh, operator of CRAPtv.com and a multimedia film producer.

Add to that another crown jewel: Tom Lassiter is leading a Saturday How-To session, tentatively titled, Videos That Don’t Suck.

Both Saskia and Jason are graciously hosting Saturday night dinners (early, so you can get to the Film Festival on time). Sign up on the ConvergeSouth dinner wiki.

Anil DashAnil Dash has accepted and will be a panelist on Social Networking on Saturday at ConvergeSouth 2007. You might know him as VP of SixApart, the folks who make TypePad, Movable Type, LiveJournal and Vox.

Will Bunch at ConvergeSouth

Will Bunch - panelist & session leader
Will BunchWilliam Bunch is the senior writer for the Philadelphia Daily News and its former political writer. Will’s been covering presidential campaigns and conventions all the way back to Jesse Jackson’s historic 1984 bid. Working for the spunky Philly paper that GQ once called “arguably the best tabloid in America,” he’s gained national recognition for his scoops on the mysteries of 9/11, the crash of Flight 93, the war in Iraq and the beheading of Nick Berg.

Before coming to Philadelphia, Will was a key member of the New York Newsday team that won the 1992 Pulitzer Prize for spot news reporting. His magazine articles have appeared in a number of national and regional publications, including the New York Times Magazine, and he is a contributing editor at his alma mater’s Brown Alumni Magazine.

Will is also the author of the critically praised 1994 book “Jukebox America: Down Back Streets and Blue Highways in Search of the Country’s Greatest Jukebox.” He lives in Philadelphia, has two children, an 11-year-old daughter and a 9-year-old son, and when he’s not dissecting politics he’s probably either still searching for Philly’s best jukebox or brooding over the Phillies or 76ers.

Will Bunch’s blog - Attytood - is here.
